The courses operate as 6-9 week self -facilitated discussion groups with each participant taking a turn leading a discussion of the weekly readings. Groups, consisting of 8-12 participants, usually meet 1 1/2 hours per week. The only expense for the course is about $20.00, for the course book. The only expense for Book Discussions is the cost of the book, which varies depending on where you get it.A CEI volunteer mentor will assist in the facilitation of the introductory presentation and the first and closing discussions.

The courses are designed to engage people where they spend their time. Located in schools, community agencies, homes, faith centers and workplaces, courses are offered in many local communities. Consensus is not the goal nor does the group seek to reach an agreement at the expense of diverse opinions. The CEI volunteer mentor shares resources and does not preach or teach.
