Healthy Children--Healthy Planet

An eight-week discussion course that educates parents to the pervasive effects of advertising, explores concrete ways to develop a child’s connection to nature and foster creativity, discover ways to create meaningful family times and healthful environments, and instill earth-care values in children.

This discussion course was developed to assist responsible parents raising children. In our consumer culture, the term “healthy children – healthy planet”, is a declaration of interdependence. The good health of children, either living today or born in the future, depends on the good health of our earth. Conversely, the future health of our earth will be a direct reflection of our commitment, and sustained commitment of future generations, to care for it.

They say that our children are our future. Many of us already know that it’s not easy in our dominant culture to live simply and sustainably, especially when raising children. How do we pass these important values onto our children? This discussion course is all about doing this!

The course has three purposes. The first is to understand how the pervasive effects of advertising, media, and our consumer culture can influence a child’s view of the world. The second is to discover ways to create meaningful family times and healthful environments for children. Lastly it explores ways to develop a child’s connection to nature and foster their creativity.
