Choices for Sustainable Living

A nine-week course which considers the environmental implications of daily choices in such areas as food and transportation, and provides information for alternative options.

Sustainable living is an approach, a practice, and for many, a purposeful way of living in a society that separates itself from the natural systems that make life possible. Sustainability is a belief that we should meet our needs today in a manner that does not compromise the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

A sustainable community has:

  • a healthy and diverse ecological system that provides life-sustaining functions and other resources for all species
  • a healthy and adaptive economy that adapts to change, provides long-term security and recognizes ecological limits
  • a social foundation that provides for the health of all community members, respects cultural diversity and is equitable in its actions
