Amazing Journey!: the Universe and Me

An six-week discussion course explores the incredible story of the universe and evolution of life through the lenses of both science and spirituality; a foundation for a fuller life and the undergirding of all Earth Institute courses.

We have a new story to understand and tell! To learn that there is a new "creation story", one based on recent scientific discoveries, and one that embraces all other creation stories (including those from Genesis), is so powerful! As Passionist priest Thomas Berry says, "The universe is the primary revelation of the divine, the primary scripture, the primary focus of divine-human communion." This revelation doesn't diminish traditional Christian and non-Christian faith traditions as much as it enhances them and enriches one's spirituality.

This course was developed by Global Education Associates Upper Midwest with formatting permission from The Northwest Earth Institute. The six-week discussion course works like all the other CEI discussion courses. Early reviews by those reading the book of readings have been extremely positive and powerful. Participants will explore existing creation stories, and discuss why they are so important and need to be told and handed down to our children. They will learn the new universe story, its impact and its implications. The book of readings is replete with over thirty-five authors, numerous ritual suggestions, and supplemental readings. Of course, there is a celebration at the end.
